Challenge Modes

Post by AeroCross »

Hey everyone!

After that short but nice raiding night I had (the first one I've had since I was in BC), I can see so much potential in smaller groups, since it was hard to get all the 10 people to do MSV during the holidays.

I was thinking in starting a couple of groups for Challenge Modes.

I don't know how can we accomplish that but both me and my friend Manuel (Andhart) want to pull this off. We can study those encounters and start with 2 or 3 hours a couple of days a week starting for Temple of the Jade Serpent, and once the group is cohesive, we can move on. I know that Challenge Modes are hard but they are possible.

If Inori or Draven (as raid leaders) can pitch in ideas (and guidance!) for this, it'd be great.

Any ideas? Comments? Volunteers?

greetings! i like the idea of challenge modes, and at some point i would like to dedicate some time to getting through them all, but at the moment the vast majority of my wow time is devoted to raiding in one way or another, so challenge modes aren't something i have time to think about right now. there are probably others in the guild who would be interested though.

I'd be interested in this! The transmog gear looks pretty sweet. Give me a holler if I'm on.

I'd be interested in this. I should mention, that this isn't something that can be casually poked away at. It is seriously difficult to get gold, probably harder than many of the 10 man normal mode raid bosses. The challnege modes scale all your gear back to ilvl 463 automatically, so you can't outgear it, it is 100% skill.

There are a lot of "tricks" to doing this, and some of them are almost impossible to gold without a rogue in the group to stealth everyone by trash in my understanding.

We would need a consistent group with a dedicated time to log in and work on these each week. I'd say weekend afternoons for an hour or so would be the best for me.

Thanks for the support guys!

That would make us 4 (perhaps 5) of us. Criksus being a tank and myself as a healer, we do have a whole team. Andhart is a Rouge (and he's an IRL friend of mine who's really interested) so, if what you say is true (and I really think it is, now that I think about it), we have a headstart there.

Earlier today I put up a Guild Event for Challenge modes, on Sunday — I don't know if that's a good time for ya (starting at 3pm server time, if I recall correctly, but I can wait the whole afternoon).

Getting a consistent group is priority — we all have to know eachother and work our team strategy and overall responsiveness /communication. I was thinking more like 1-2 hours, and previous knowledge of the enocunter (starting with TotJS, since I think it's the easier one because it's really small).

I've tried this, and let me tell you something: the most important part of this is handling frustration / psychological resilience. You'll die. You'll wipe. A LOT. But you gotta keep trying and getting the hang of it. The group must be aware of this and still keep it togheter. Since the gear scaled back to heroic-level gear (463), your equipped gear must be over that ilvl with enchants and gems. Also, the encounter mechanics are different, so it's totally different than an heroic run.

I'm aiming for bronzes for warming up, getting the know-how of the encounters, then keep coming back for silvers, then gold. The main goal is to actually getting through the instance, no matter the time, but bronze would be ideal. Once we get better at it, we can come back and take it up a notch.

Also, I've been reading about CM's and I found this out: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/6863526914

It's from a member of the Aftermath Guild in Mal'Ganis - they have ridiculous times in the region (they have the 2nd fastest time in TotJS in the whole America region) so I'd say it's wise to listen to them while we start.

Perhaps doing Scarlet Halls is a better idea.

Resources? Suggestions? Feel free to post them here!

Aero, why don't you make a choice on which dungeon that you want to start on. I have a bit of a busy weekend, but I do have time to study on or two of the dungeons. I'm also moving back into school on Sunday. I will try to get in early to be ready for 2:00 PM (I'm east coast so 5:00 PM), but making no guarantees.
