Fathomlord Learning Experiences

Great job last night guys!  Lets kill him again. :)  Thanks to everyone who dropped their normal Monday night thing to pull it together for a new raid boss!  I think we had people opt out of ZA -- give up their Kara badge run -- and give up their weekly 5-man for it.   I'm glad Thandrenn got his computer going.  It shows good dedication - I'm proud to call you all guildees. First the lewt:
[Blooodsea Brigand's Vest] - Beiner
[Crystalforged Leggings] - Jazzmynn
[Crystalforged Leggings] - Killean
[Leggings of the Corruptor] - Fargol Now the learning experiences -- please add your own "what worked" or "what didn't" to this thread: *   Positioning Karathress was my biggest learning experience, it's dangerous where I lead him when he has his spitfire totem and I think all but the last attempt -- I was taking him too close to the raid.  I think back and forth along the back right wall worked well, and then moving in an upside down V was the key. *    When I'm moving Karathress is the "danger time" -- he doesn't hit terribly hard, but there's a certain amount of chaos as we're fleeing the spitfire totems.  That was the main time I was using my clickables. *    In regards to positioning -- I think it would be good if the healers moved proactively, or perhaps there was a spare that could be out of range in the opposite side I could run towards.   Or perhaps run in a triangular fashion.  Consider the following diagrams:          H1                     FLK *^
         H2                     MT   *                        O

H3 ... leads to ...  H1                                      ^
                                                    O
         H2                      FLK *
         H3                      MT   *
... or perhaps move in a triangular fashion so a healer is halfway to the dragged position ... not sure if I could graph that ascii. :)  But I think proactively anticipating the totem rather than running away was critical.

2 of the wipes were my fault, which I learned from.  The first wipe, when he initially called his pet, I was caught in a tornado and it got loose on the healers.  I wasn't caught in a tornado after that.  The second time, I missed 2 swipes and by then I had no rage left and again it went loose.  After those 2 times, I made sure I wasn't trying to go balls out and dps him, but made sure I always had a healthy amount of rage. During some parts of the fight, I dropped to 1fps and was spamming shred so much, praying it would come up as soon as he whistled since I couldn't tell what was going on.  But hopefully I'll have my new computer with WOW installed, as soon as I can fly back down to LA and pick up my discs, which should be at the end of the month.

Congrats on getting him down!....sorry i couldn't be there, or for that matter even let anyone know I wouldn't be there....there is a semi-funny story behind it though I guess.   My buddies and I drove down to Hartford around 8 to pick up one of our friends at the airport, figured we'd be back here by 10 at the latest (eastcoast) and I'd be back in time to easily make whichever raid was happening.  So we get to the airport, park the car and decide to go in and get something to eat while we wait for him.  After we're done eating and we find the kid, we're all set to leave so we head outside and the car is just missing.  So we checked with the security gaurds working the area and it turns out they towed my friends car for being in a spot we wernt supposed to be in, even though none of the three people saw one sign saying we couldn't be parked there.  So after firguring out where the place we had to go was and by the time we actually got the car back it was already midnight.  So basically i didnt get back here untill 1 ish, at which point i had to do homework that was due at 9 am this morning.  Awesome night.....not really though. So ya, sorry I couldn't even let anyone know i wouldn't be around

i think  moving a warlock over to the group on the priest made the last attempt a little easier by the time we got there he was at like 60-70 % and so it cut down a lot on the raid time there.  also   one thing i noticed  on  a few of the attempts that we wiped close to the end, was  the ranged dps was grouped up and we were getting stuck in the  hurricane thing  which  pretty much leaves you doing nothing for 8 seconds

Beiner, I just switched computers and just copied my entire wow folder on to the new comp and it worked fine... Didn't need to install anything, just a straight copy.  All my mods stayed intact too :)

The only thing I noticed from a magely perspective, was that I didn't plan out my cooldowns properly.  Also when we were transitioning between adds, I should have thrown an ice lance at fathomlord to keep my crusader stack up.  I think if I would have done those couple things, 1300 dps is not a big deal on this fight.
