new web site

Post by draven »

greetings. for a variety of reasons, i have long consider our current web site to be a failed experiment. therefore in the not too distant future, we will hopefully have something that actually works properly and fulfills it's primary purpose, which is to be a forum for the guild.
the beginnings of a new site can be found here:
http://99.117.116.96/fanew/

everyone's login from this site should work on the forum there as long as you haven't changed your password in the last week or so, feel free to play around with it as much as you like. in the user control panel you will find a bunch of different configuration options.

this is just a test site running off a computer in my living room, so it may or may not work at all times. you will probably not be able to create a new account, request a new password, or do anything that requires email. also, *everything* will eventually be deleted from it and *nothing* will be saved. therefore you probably shouldn't spend too much time setting up your profile or writing epic posts or anything.

i have no timeline for this, but i hope to be able to switch over soonish. i still need to figure out how to migrate all of the forums and posts from drupal to phpbb and get the new forums set up properly, which may or may not take me a while. i also need to set up the site on a new server, and transfer the domain name. it mainly depends on how much of a slacker i continue to be, spending too much time on wow stuff and not enough on that real life thing :)

questions / comments / suggestions / whatever appreciated as always

Rock on brother!
Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible cunt... me.

Not that my opinion matters much, but I always liked this "boring" look, and the boring look of the old-old (pre-wow-themed) DNN site. It always made it much more passible for reading at work :-p

Nothing screams "I'm certainly not working" than a website with a bunch of dragons and fire and sh*t on it.

I just checked that out. I don't think I could ask for a more boring, uninteresting, plain looking forum. It almost brought a tear to my eye.

an update on this in case anyone is curious. due to phpbb's quirkiness and the fact that it's documentation is lacking, hard to find, and / or non-existent, it's taken me longer to figure out how to migrate the forums / posts than i thought it would, by a lot. however, i think i was finally able to get the general forum transferred, and hope to have the rest done this weekend. depending on how that goes, with any luck i should be able to get everything else set up as well, and there shall be much rejoicing.
