Raid Thoughts -- 9/19

Post by Drumble »

Couple things I learned last night: Attumen / Midnight : Yes yes .. teach an old dog new tricks.  I learned something new on the first boss.  Basically I read a post on what mobs in the instance you can reflect spells on.   Spell Reflect is "teh sex" on this fight.  That debuff they apply that decreases our hit chance 50% can be reflected -- DBM gives a timer, I know I was able to reflect a couple.  Skeletal Waiter: Another good mob to spell reflect on -- that "Brittle Bones" debuff decreases your armor to 0 -- just an extra way to free yourself from the hassle of waiting 2 minutes, or sucking extra heals.  I didn't get it once -- technique was:  pull, wait for cheap shot to wear off and reflect.  Wait for reflect to wear off - then concussion blow (waiting on cooldown) -- then reflect again.  There was no way for him to apply it to me. Moroes: This fight is 90% about the offtank threat.  Basically the way I see it is -- if Moroes runs after DPS, it's DPS's fault for not riding below the OT's threat -- if Moroes runs after a healer, it's the OT's fault for not out-threatting the heals.  That said, OT still needs to threat hard hard hard to give DPS some breathing room. Big Bad Wolf: We had a rough go at this because my first couple moves whiffed in some fashion.  He cast LRR on someone right away and I was left chasing him around the room to even throw on those initial sunders. DPS needs to sit on their hands in this situation ... if they let loose and exceed the tank threat, then he's in your raid - fearing your face off.  I propose that in all future attempts no DPS until after the first LRR has worn off.  (or hopefully been shrugged off by a class that can do it).  Curator: Down during the second evocation.   Whatever you guys did ... amazing. Nightbane:We've one shotted this guy and he gave us problems last night.  A one shot requires the focus that we originally gave this fight though .. A few important notes ---   *  Do not get too far away from NB in the air -- he will fireball you and everyone around you.  Basically "Fire Ball Barrage" showing up in the combat log is like moving during the flame wreath -- dont make me chant you!   *  Rain of Bones -- its' really important to pay attention to your debuffs during the initial part of the air phase -- you could be hurting everyone around you if NB drops those guys on you.   *  Watch those healers!  One of the healers is going to be getting pummeled by NB constantly in the air, most likely spam healing themselves -- there should be a high-priority effort to pull the skeletons away from the healers.   *  Focus Fire!! Not AOE.  AOE = death to a DPS on skeletons, unless the healers are prepared ... plus if everyone is running willy-nilly hitting the mobs closest to them, it creates a situation where the healers are cleaning up a lot of excess damage.  Leading to chaos at:   *  The transition from air --> ground is critical.  I'm shield blocking when I can, but I'm also trying to make sure that I get a healthy dose of initial threat and positioning him right.   NB hits for about 3-4k normally 2 attacks at once -- in about 8 seconds I will (and did) die with no heals.  Perhaps a dedicated healer to focus on MT healing while the rest "clean up" the raid who got smacked by a skeleton.  At that point in the fight all I had left were my Moroes trinket (which I used) and Shield Wall (which I should have used).

Shade of Aran:3 warlocks in the raid -- how do you *think* it went. :DNetherspite:Unlucky DC -- and we didn't recover fast enough.  Rogues are good for swapping into the red beam, but only as a substitution for someone who died.  Better to have a tank dance in and out of the beam.  I spaced it out though on our second attempt -- ended up with 11k max health. (!!)  Second try was textbook for the most part .. Prince:The big learning experience here is probably the pull.  He starts running at you so fast that any gunshot would likely fail.  I'm not sure how/why he ran towards Fargol when he was already running towards me -- except that maybe (since I have 0 initial aggro) applying your self-buff (Amplify Curse) pushed your threat higher?Regardless -- DPS is best served going nuts in phases 2 & 3 anyways -- those critical 2 seconds at the beggining of the fight shouldn't be a priority to DPS, just hang back -- wait for the pick-up -- and we're golden.Again we lucked out horribly with the Infernal placement the time we got him down.  No moving necessary -- I feel guilty.  Well .. kinda.
