Post-Mortems and Raid Learning

Post by Han »

We are going to start being more open about mistakes we see while raiding, and I encourage everyone to do the same.  Please do not take any performance notes personally, its after all just a game, and we are all trying to win at it :)  We are going to have to point out some mistakes and they may be specific to a raider, but it doesn't mean that person is a terrible player etc. After each raid we will try to post something about learning experiences, and you might see yourself called out on a mistake.  Feel free to bring up any mistakes you saw as well, because it could very well be that someone didn't notice what was going on and pointing it out could mean the difference between a wipe and another guild first!

Ok -- I'll go. :) We need to do things faster.  We had a lot of downtime for various reasons -- it was our first stint in that direction so some was to be expected.  But there's a certain "raid readiness" we all need to embrace. Trash pulls -- we'll stop at purples, but it's your job to drink/eat be ready -  if I see our healers have >50% mana, I'm making the next pull.  This goes for tanks as well -- there's no sense sitting at the back of the bus, get up there and get ready for the next pull. Repairs -- I think it's pretty imperative that we have repair bots as part of every raid.  Especially for those shaman who get gear dinged 2x oftentimes. Wiping -- JUST DIE.  Don't run 1000 feet away, jump into a hole, cover your head and wait for them to path 20 minutes to you.  We'll have a repair bot, take your 10% like man. Re-attempts -- There's no reason we need to wait 15 minutes for our next attempt.  We can rez, buff, adjust the plan and execute -- we'll get more done.  The longer we take to go, the more likely someone is going to attach on a "2 min bio" and everyone leaves for an extra 5 minutes. Scheduled breaks -- After a boss, we'll be taking 5-10 minutes -- that's when to bio.  That's when to "rush to Shattrath omg forgot repairs / ankhs / whatever".  Not for you to chat it up and realize you're broken before the next boss.  Use this time wisely.   The faster we go -- the more bosses we kill.  Sexy time for all!

Yeah, thanks for posting Mason.  I wanted to bring this up as well as it's something we've seen in the past.  The real threshold for me is when I have a b-rez up for every attempt, it's on a 20 minute timer.

I agree completely, I have like 15 repair bots still, I forgot to bring them last run, but i'll be sure to keep 5 w/ me for every raid. I also have the recipe to make them and they are pretty easy to make from what I can remember.

Just a couple general things I guess:   1. Please, PLEASE don't watch t.v. or something when we are doing 25 man content.  We need everyones full concentration, otherwise everyone is going to be getting frustrated, and spending more money/time then what is needed.  ( technically this should go for my Kara raid too, but I will let that slide for now... unless you get us killed because you were watching the set.  Then I may get mad...) 2. DPS.  Our role is often very simple in these encounters.  You don't need to know all the specifics of the fight really, only those that effect you.  Ex.  I don't really care what the whirlwind from Leo does.  I just know I don't want to get hit by it.  So I just avoid getting hit.  Problem solved.  Mistakes are to be made once.  That is called learning.  Do it again, and that is ignorance.  When aggro is dumped, let it the tank rebuild it.  Don't try to stack the meters, b/c meters for a night of wipes do not matter.

But what if it is YOU?  Do you have a discussion about suck with yourself?  I can just imagine that conversation going bad...
