How do I get a raid spot?

Post by Han »

We generally will have more than 25 level 70's available to raid on our main night(s).  How do you ensure you get one of the 25 spots?   Being a raid leader is hard.  These people have to decide which members get invites and who sits on the sidelines.  To make the raid more enjoyable for everyone involved, they try and take the most enthusiastic, knowledgeable, prepared, and geared/gemmed/enchanted players.  This increases the chance to succeed and further our progression.  Having a positive attitude and striving to help the guild as a whole progress goes a long way.  Here are a few tips to help you secure a spot:   Know the content Read up on encounters we will be attempting Watch videos Know your specific role in fights Come Prepared for a night of wipes Bring appropriate consumables, always bring more than you need to share in case someone else runs out If you find this to be too time consuming to farm them, do a couple daily quests (less than a half hour) and buy them at auction Bring your reagents, and preferably some extras Be fully repaired Know your class, inside and out Read Elitist Jerks, being knowledgable will impress the raid leader and get you a spot Gear Make sure you have the best upgrades available for the content You don't need every single spot to be filled with gear that may take weeks to farm, but be working toward this Gem your gear with blue gems There is no excuse for green gems in T5 content Read a gear guide to find out what is best for your spec ElitistJerks has great information Enchant all of your gear Even if you think you might replace it soon, enchant your gear, nothing says "I don't care about the gear 24 people helped me get last week" like showing up without an enchant on it.  24 people x 10 gold minimum repair bills = 240 gold to help you get that piece.  Spend the 50g to get it enchanted (do some dailies) Refer to a gear guide or ask an officer of your class if you are unsure which enchant to get Spec for PvE We don't force anyone to spec a certain way.  But the reality is, there is a "best" way to spend your talent points in each tree for most classes and specs.   Noone is going to not invite you because you spent 3 or 4 talent points in a different talent than what would be considered optimal.  Raid leaders will invite PvE spec'd players over PvP specced players in a heartbeat. Be on time.  Your spot is gone 1 minute after the posted invite time unless you notify someone in advance.

This has been said a lot in the past -- but I think we're kind of at a point where the rubber should hit the road. If you're not living up to this -- if you're going to be a "selfish" raider and keep your pvp spec, crap green gems, lame or no enchants -- you have until we're able to replace you to figure it out.   Everyone should be putting in 110% -- look to your right and left, see that they are.
